ARTIST STATEMENT
“I am Jonna, I live in Vantaa, Finland, and I create art in the peace of my home.
As a profound thinker, I value authenticity and the courage to confront even the most challenging topics, over the allure of polished surfaces. My soul, deep and emotional, finds solace in nature and cherishes the companionship of animals. At home, I find joy in the realms of music, poetry, and cinema.
Painting is my sanctuary, a conduit for expressing my innermost thoughts and emotions that often remain unspoken. It allows me to weave narratives about subjects that are deeply personal and close to my heart. However, I am also touching on human destinies or mental health challenges that make me pick up the brush and translate them into visual expressions on canvas.
My art is a voyage into the shadows of life, exploring the unlit corners of existence. It captures the duality of life, embodying both its darkness and beauty. It serves as a mirror to my inner world, where the ethereal and melancholic aspects coexist, crafting a unique and captivating visual tapestry for the viewer. It transcends the confines of a simple medium, evolving into a language that articulates my emotions and a storyteller that narrates tales from the profound depths of my soul.
My art moves between realism and surrealism, with each piece unified by an ethereal and melancholic atmosphere. I prefer oil paints, as they allow for endless refinement of the piece. My color palette is symbolically dark and muted, but I also love to surprise with bursts of color and techniques. Female figures, flowers, and birds, elements of significant symbolism, often recur in my paintings.
Through my paintings, I aspire to connect with others, offering comfort, peace, and a unique visual experience to all who view them. As I look to the future, I am committed to further developing my artistic expression, hoping that my paintings will reach and resonate with as many viewers as possible.”
